Mojito is one of my favourite cocktails, not only in summer. Mint and lime are perfect ingredients to energize your mind and body. I have been experimenting with quite some times with different preparations avoiding the alcohol. And this is the result: the positive energy usually ascribed to the rum will be offered by the green tea, the sweetness of sugar has been exchanged for honey and as an diuretic extra I have added some cucumber slices. This is as healthy as it gets.
Here go you, the Mojitea: refreshing fun without hangover risk.
Ingredients for two Mojiteas (you are going to share, aren’t you?)
You’ll need half a liter of cold (or almost cold) green tea. You can prepare it the night before in your fridge or just cool down some freshly brewed tea. Add some diced lime (you can even freeze them beforehand for some extra chill) into two glasses, plus two cucumber slices, fresh mint leaves and some lime juice. With a mortar, crush the ingredients to make sure the mint and the cucumber open up. Finally, if you want a bit more sweetness in your drink, add some honey, sugar or stevia leaves. Top it up with your green tea and you are ready to go!
Enjoy our cocktail!
Variations
Leave out the cucumber or do add some rum. Substitute the lime for lemon… your creativity is the limit.
¿Why is it so healthy?
This cocktail combines the advantages of green tea with the positive effects of cucumber, lime and mint. Your digestive system will love it. Both the cucumber and the lime help eliminating toxins from your liver and kidneys. Furthermore, the lime as well as the green tea is stuffed with flavonoids, known to hunt down free radicals in your body. Mint leaves are stimulating, enhancing the energizing effect of the green tea.
Now, if you add rum, this might change a bit…
